E Vs X (Eyes Vs Xpected) Gameweek 10 Review

Game Week 10 review

My hope for this blog is to offer a slightly different take on FPL I do not consider myself tactically astute nor do I feel I am by any means an FPL expert. I have been watching live football as a season ticket holder for 16 years and have always judged football on what I see and what I feel.

These days’ stats about football are everywhere digging deep into the darkest areas of Xa, or the more common passes completed and goals scored. Now do not think that I dislike stats, I love them especially when they back up my feeling about a player or team.

Crystal Palace Vs Newcastle

My thoughts going into this game were that it would be dull a nailed on 0-0! For 70 minutes of the game I was right. With Newcastle if a game is 0-0 going into the last 15 mins they become far more dangerous especially with Wilson playing.

Interestingly Palace are the reverse they have been far more likely to score in the first 30 mins of a game but highly likely to concede in the final 15 and this played straight into Newcastle's hands.

Looking at these games Newcastle will have the measure of most teams in mid-table and below and will continue to be solid defensively for 60 minutes then start getting in behind in the later stages.

FPL Pick going forward

No Surprise here but Cullum Wilson is the one at £6.5m he is a great choice especially in a league with very few quality choices up top.

From Palace we know Wilfred Zaha is the main choice but personally this season I do not feel his head is in the right place. Another from Palace could be Patrick Van Aanholt  he had chances to get returns and with West Brom up next it could be a game for him to shine.

Fan pick Palace

From @FPLchi If I had to Eze, as he has the potential to be decent at some point.

 Fan pick Newcastle

From Carl… I don't want to be negative about my own team but we're not the most creative team without Wilson who knows how we'd be doing right now, Almiron is my favourite but any Newcastle player in fantasy is a gamble. Because you want consistency and that is something Newcastle cannot offer.

West Brom Vs Sheffield United

Another game that offered very little to be excited about. The goal came early on for West Brom and once they got that they relied on United failing in front of goal.

Sam Johnstone was great in goal, not for the first time this season, he kept West Brom in the lead.

Sheffield United really lack any goal scoring threat they make some good moves but the final ball or shot is often poor.

FPL Pick going forward

I actually think Sam Johnston is a great keeper and at £4.5 million a good choice if you are not bothered about too many clean sheets. He will always pull in save points and will get the odd double digit haul.

From Sheffield United it is a tough one but Oliver McBernie looked lively and could and probably should have had a couple of assists.

Fan pick West Brom

From @TheBaggiesPod... If I had to pick one player who’s likely to perform this weekend it would be Semi Ajayi, we’ve looked a lot more defensively solid of late and I can potentially see us keeping a clean sheet again Crystal Palace after keeping one against Sheffield United.

 Fan pick Sheffield United

From @aidey02lee... Going forward Lys Mousset

Everton Vs Leeds

The first heartbreak of the FPL weekend with DLC coming up with a blank the third most captained player in the game.

Everton looked ok Vs Fulham but injury to Digne seemed to hit them hard and the 2 goals conceded were warning signs. The Make shift wingbacks just couldn’t offer the same support though to the front line.

Both keepers played well but “big chances” were few and far between. To me it doesn’t look like James will have the energy levels to offer much through December.

From Leeds we saw a more controlled display holding onto the ball for longer and taking their time in the build-up. They also offered some clever fouls whenever Everton tried to counter. DCL was still bright and I think he is still a great choice up top.

 FPL Pick going forward

For Everton I cannot look past DCL his movement was great and I still think they will get goals despite the wingback issues.

From Leeds I like the look of Harrison he set up 3 chances and hit the woodwork if Leeds do create it will be from him or Bamford for the most part.

Fan pick Everton

From @talking_toffees… In last game, Jordan Pickford (surprisingly!) & Allan were our better players. In general, as you can imagine the front 3 of Richarlison, DCL & James make Everton tick

Fan pick Leeds

From @leedsthat… Kalvin Phillips, massive performance at DM and the foundation for any solid premier league team. Had Gary Crooks trying to sell him off to Liverpool!

Man City Vs Burnley

It was the game the FPL world wanted City to get back to the must own pile. All hopes pinned of KDB and after a poor season this was the game he needed to come good. This game has now ended 5-0...4 times!

Burnley did try to approach the game differently having a bit more of a go but trying to play to their defensive strengths. The biggest problem for Burnley here was a goal in 6 mins once that went in the game was only going one way.

With Fulham, Man United, West Brom and Southampton coming up it looks like KDB is a must have again.

 FPL Pick going forward

From Manchester City I cannot look past KDB but I would say Dias in defence is worth a look seems guaranteed to start whilst Ake is out and can get involved in the goals.

From Burnley it is hard from that display to pick anyone but if you want a cheap forward then Chris Wood might be worth it. Burnley have medium difficulty fixtures coming up and he may pop up with a goal or two.

Fan pick Man City

From @9320pod… Kevin De Bruyne! Mahrez’s hat trick notwithstanding.

Fan Pick Burnley

From @TurfCastPodcast… Going forward will have to be Dwight McNeil, the lads is a real talent who should go on to big things, but he has had a poor season so far this year

Brighton Vs Liverpool

This wasn’t the best game and VAR popped up more than once to frustrate the players. Just 5 shots on target for both teams combined showed how tightly it was contested.

Brighton are very capable of keeping games tight being well organised and always working hard. If the early Maupay pen had gone in then we might have seen a very different result.

Jota looked lively and has definitely played his way into both the Liverpool side and FPL sides. Salah again showed he is a must in any FPL team and a keeper for the season.

From Brighton Pascal Gross (£5.8m) looked lively got his goal and has averaged 6 points a game over the last 4 barring Leicester next Brighton have a good run coming.

FPL Pick going forward

Liverpool it can only be Salah or Jota really both look like they will get returns whatever the result. From Brighton if fit Maupay or Gross could show some returns over the next 4 weeks.

Fan pick Liverpool

From @atxredspodcast… Diego Jota would be my pick for the week.

Fan pick Brighton

From James… It’s hard to look past Gross he is always involved in anything good we do.

Arsenal Vs Wolves

Wolves did not have the best record at Arsenal having not won a game there since 1979! This is not the same Arsenal side a side who seem to be struggling for goals and confidence.

Both Wolves and Arsenal have been let’s say uninspiring this season with both teams averaging about 1 goal a game and conceding about 1 goal a game.

Saying this from an FPL perspective both offer some options from Arsenal it is hard to ignore Bellerin and from Wolves I think Neto is always a good choice he is cheap so could free up funds for another position and if Wolves score he will be involved.

FPL Pick going forward

From Arsenal I think Gabriel is a shout at £5.1m he is low cost and Arsenal seen to keep tight at the back barring the Spurs fixture there could be some points going forward.

From Wolves I think Neto would be the only pick. They have a tough run of games coming so I wouldn’t look at the defenders.

Fan pick Arsenal

From @AdsHobbs… for me currently only Gabriel he gets some good points.

Fan Pick Wolves

From @WWFCFancast… Neto or Podence. Neto is the 9th most creative player in the league currently and I believe still a cracking price. Podence will get similar goal contributions but slightly cheaper.

Chelsea Vs Spurs

So the top of the league clash contested by the team who have scored the most. It looks likely going into this game that Spurs would try to keep the game tight and that they did. Since the West Ham thrilling come back, Spurs have looked a very different prospect at the back.

For Chelsea who have been in good form their inability to perform Vs the top 6 struck again. Personally I would have a few from Spurs and Chelsea for different reasons From Spurs I think the time might be to look at Lloris or Dier both are guaranteed to start and judging by the way Spurs set up they may be hard to score against.

From Chelsea I would look at the attack Werner or Ziyech they have favourable games coming up for attacking returns.

FPL pick going forward

From Chelsea I think Werner good price and will be involved in goals although it is hard to overlook Zouma clean sheets and goal involvement make him a must so far. From Spurs other than the must include Kane I do like the idea of a defender like Dier or even Lloris in goal.

Fan Pick Chelsea

From @Shamil29… Think has to be Chilwell - returns both ends of the pitch now we are solid at the back also on corners if Ziyech doesn’t start.

Fan pick Spurs

From @aboveaveragefpl… Dier or Lloris (separate to Kane of course) I think Spurs will continue to keep games tight.

Southampton Vs Manchester United

Both teams here average about 1.6 goals against a game and have been up and down defensively. It was obvious early on that both teams would go for it and for a long time it seemed that Southampton would come out on top.

Ward-Prowse looked lively again and for United the FPL king Bruno Fernades was on his usual form. The introduction of Cavani seemed key and he could be an option going forward although there might be a ban incoming for him.

United’s results have been brilliant away from home and with West ham away up next it could be worth getting on some of their attacking players. Southampton have a nice run over the next 3 games they seem like they will go for teams so again attacking wise there are some options.

FPL pick going forward

From United you just have to have Bruno he is one of about 4 players that need to be in every team for the season. If Cavani is available he might be an option that other players do not have. From Southampton Ward-Prowse is my pick he is involved in everything they do and is in great form.

Fan pick Southampton

From @TotalSaintsPod… The obvious two picks are James Ward-Prowse and Danny Ings. As an outsider, maybe Che Adams or Alex McCarthy?

Fan Pick Manchester United

From @_DanielGriffith… probably Rashford but Cavini for sure if he looks like he is starting.

West Ham Vs Aston Villa

West Ham now have 3 wins in a row and are definitely the surprise form team of the season so far. Aston Villa have been great away from home with this being their 1st defeat on the road.

All eyes were on Grealish in this game and whilst he was brilliant and had some returns he looked a slightly different player without Barkley alongside him however Villa still looked a real threat.

West Ham have been defensively great this season having the equal 3rd best back line in the league. West Ham have also been lively in attack with Bowen again looking like a good addition.

For attacking returns Aston Villa have a good run of games coming up Grealish and Watkins will offer points for sure. West Ham have been great but have some tough fixtures but I would also look for attacking players there.

FPL pick going forward

From Aston Villa it would be Watkins and Grealish I think both will offer returns over the next 4 games. From West Ham Bowen is the pick he looks confident and they seem to be getting good service to him.

Fan Pick West Ham

From Karl… My pick would be Bowen or Antonio both have a lot to offer.

Fan pick Aston Villa

From @VillaTogether  Obviously Jack Grealish is one. Likely to get points most weeks, with his goals and assists. Aside from that possibly Ezri Konsa as he occasionally gets a goal going forward.

Leicester Vs Fulham

All eyes on Vardy here one of the most Captained players in the game and it was very close to disappointment. Fulham have not been terrible this season but obviously have struggled in this game things came good. Finally a penalty goes in and Lookman gets on the scoresheet.

For Fulham though things could get tough again with Man City and Liverpool up next. Leicester have been usually good against the teams around or below them in the league and have a good run of games to score.

Leicester have qualified for the Europa League last 16 so can rest up on Thursday night and will be looking at the Sheffield United game to get back to winnings ways.

 FPL pick going forward

From Leicester Vardy is the main pick I can see some goals from him in the next few game weeks. Another option is Tielemans as a cheaper midfielder and isn’t widely owned. From Fulham it is tough with the games that are coming but maybe Lookman is finding some confidence.

Fan pick Leicester

Fan Pick Fulham

From @Fulham_Focus... Lookman is the standout person at the moment. He scores goals, creates loads of chances and is guaranteed to start if fit.
